Twilight Born With It
So, I saw Breaking Dawn: Part 1 yesterday.

It was good comedy value, although boring at times. And oh my god, it would not end.

You know those people who giggle and talk throughout a movie? Don't you just hate them? That was basically me and my friend the whole way through. I have become what I hate. This is what Twilight does to you. There was a guy who had come to see it on his own sat right in front of me and my friend. We annoyed him especially. I am sorry, Guy.

I may have introduced my friend to the concept of Pedobear. Oh well. She had to learn some day.

Best Part: At one point Bella is on the phone to her Dad, pretending to be sick. He says, something like - "I guess it was a little chink in your armour." I, and my friend, heard - "It must have been a kink in your hymen"

You can imagine our reaction.

Can I have a "Team Bella's Dad" button, cos he is like the only character I like in this series. Or a "Team Leah". I do quite like her and am sad nobody else does.

Actually no, I tell a lie - my absolute favourite character of anything ever is Martin Sheen's Head of the Vampire Mafia, character! Sadly he is not in it, but maybe he will be in the next one.

Anyway. If you read my personal journal you might know that I have rediscovered a love of and am in process of kindling a new obsession with Beauty and the Beast. (No, I can't explain it.) I drew this, day before yesterday. It's really bad but you might get a laugh out of it.

So after over a year I actually feel like writing fic!

I have like "ideas" running through my head! Situations and sentence fragments and scenes! All just witing to be strung together!

I'm thinking of writing some holiday ficlets! Leave me a prompt and I'll write you a small something before the New Year! You can be as vague or as specific as you like.

Stuff I'll write: Star Trek XI, Sulu/Chekov, of course, any combination of Kirk/Spock/McCoy/Uhura, Sulu with anyone, Scotty with anyone except Chekov. I'll give anything of the following a go, but if I get really stuck I might ask if you'll compromise/change: Harry Potter, Good Omens, Death Note, Disney, Firefly, Narnia, When They Cry series, Utena, Fairy Tales. I'm mostly comfortable with ratings upto R.

Stuff I won't/can't write: Non-con. Edgeplay. Breathplay. Actually I won't be able to write any ~heavy~ kinks like incest, watersports, etc. I won't write Chekov with anyone other than Sulu.

Please do! It'll cost you nothing! You'll get fic! I'll exercise the thinking muscles! Win-win!

And in case you don't feel like asking in case we've drifted apart or were never close: Anon commenting is on. IP logging off. Remember that your comment won't automatically anon. When you write a comment press the "More Options" button and click "Anonymous".

I spent the last week or so watching Community. 2 and a 1/5th seasons and I'm all caught up.

It's really good, even though quality-wise it was much better in the first season as compared to the second and third. Although, I still do like it a lot. It's very meta, and there's a lot of lampshading, homages and parodies. There's enough for me to enjoy.

And then there's this:

Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) ♥_♥

What is it with me and skinny white guys? Also, is it wrong if I ship Jeff/Annie?

In other tv programs; spoilers for Downton Abbey )

I now have "Too Many Broken Hearts" stuck in my head.

[info]katmarajade, Thank you for the virtual gift. *hugs you* You are one of the nicest people I have met on LJ (and in life - even if we haven't really met irl, but you know what I mean). I luff you bb!

Happy Halloween, guys!

Anyway so this weekend, I was thinking about my love for the Unreliable Narrator and how it so often plays a part in horror.

I might write an essay (or two) about unreliable narration in general later, but here are some of my favourite horror/creepy stories with unreliable narration.

Tried to keep spoilers to a minimum but there will be some )

What are your thoughts on unreliable narration/you favourite horror themes?

Happy Halloween flist! Don't eat too much candy! ;)

CHECKLIST of things.

Twilight Sparkle
1. So, I am probably going to stealthily dress like Twilight Sparkle on Halloween. By that I mean I am going to wear a purple outfit to work. IT's ALL I can do, OKAY? ;_________;

I just want to dress up as a pony like the cool kids.

2. Amazon. That is not Applejack .

3. So, who is doing NaNoWriMo this year?

I kind of want to do it again and do one of the following:

3.1 take it seriously and start this original novel/clusterfuck/thing with dragons and/or supernatural assasins and people who constantly try to kill one another.
3.2 take it seriously and dig out one of the longer fanfics I was working on before I like had some mental breakdowns and finish that.
3.3 write some crack fic Like so -

3.3.1 Decide on characters, like idk the tos guys; Every day randomly prioritise characters
(eg Day 1 - Spock, Kirk, Day 2: Bones, Kirk, Spock, Bones Day3: Kirk, Spock, Bones)

3.3.2 Day 1. Hit the random button on TVTropes
(eg So hitting the random button just now gave "Am I Just a Toy to You" so Character 1 ie Spock is afraid that he is just a toy to Character 2: Kirk. )

3.3.3 Write a chapter for this. Try not to resolve it.
(eg Spock never confronts Kirk and is just sad or Kirk is shocked that Spock would think so and is also sad and angry)

3.3.4 Day 2. Hit the Random button again. Write another chapter with the Day 2 character set, only keep the results of previous days in mind
(eg Plot = "Three Wishes"
Character 1: Bones gets 3 wishes that relate to Kirk. So maybe he wants Kirk for himself. Or he is sad because Kirk and Spock are sad so he tries to rectify their situation. Of course, hilarity ensues)

3.3.5 Repeat for 27 days.

3.3.6 Final Day. Instead of using a Random trope in General, use a random Ending trope. End the story with or without resolution.
(Eg: Plot: Sudden Musical Ending, they end up on some singing planet and they have something like the musical episode of Buffy where characters sing their feelings. So like if it was Spock he would be like: "I'm as sad as sad can be. Because my honey don't love me." and Kirk would be all "Why is it always all about you? You effing twat, I love you too" Bones: "I am a doctor, not a shrink. Confound these Vulcans! They drive me to Drink" Everything is resolved and people are happy! Or like they never resolve their problems and die through spontaneous combustion. )

3.3.7 Upload to ff.net/lj/some other site under a different name and see if anyone notices. Trololololo

3.3.8 Profit?

IDK, guys, IDK. What would Princess Celestia advise?

My Icon = BEST PONY

So I don't have much cause to dress up for Halloween, but if I did I would totally go as Twilight Sparkle.

Just putting that out there.

SIGNAL BOOST: SAY YES TO GAY YA

Boosting the signal:

Originally posted by [info]darkspirited1 at SIGNAL BOOST: SAY YES TO GAY YA
This comes from an article by [info]rachelmanija entitled, Say Yes to Gay YA.
(click the link for the full article)

Our novel Stranger has five viewpoint characters; one, Yuki Nakamura, is
gay and has a boyfriend. Yuki's romance, like the heterosexual ones in
the novel, involves nothing more explicit than kissing.

An agent from a major agency, one which represents a bestselling YA novel in the same genre as ours, called us.

The agent offered to sign us on the condition that we make the gay
character straight, or else remove his viewpoint and all references to
his sexual orientation.

This isn't about that specific agent; we'd gotten other rewrite requests before this one. Previous agents had also offered to take a second look if we did rewrites… including cutting the viewpoint of Yuki, the gay character.

It's time to stand up and demand change. Spread the word everywhere if you are just as angry and outraged by this.

I have been pondering writing fic again, so I am feeling thinky.

A rambling we go )

I'm mostly just thinking in print. Boldly pondering what many others have no doubt pondered before.

Ok so, this song:

This isn't serious, right? This is deliberately insane like 'Every breath you take', isn't it?

I've been listening to this all week and giggling to myself just because of how over-the-top and silly it is. I thought that it was a deliberate parody of love songs that promise the world to the singer's love-interest. Yesterday my sister told me that this is a 'straight' love song.

I mean 'I should have known you were trouble from the first kiss/ Had your eyes open, why were they open?'. That isn't a lyric that anyone can take seriously... is it?

WTF? That is messed up.

Imma just write my own chorus:

I'd make lemonade for ya
Bake a chocolate cake for ya
I'd dance around in the rain for ya
You know I'd do anything for ya

There. Much less creepy. And I could actually fall for a guy who would make me chocolate cake, as opposed to jumping in front of a train. WTF? I can understand 'catch a genade' like die to save my life, but who wants a guy who will commit suicide for you?

That was rhetorical. Don't answer that.

I am currently rewatching the When They Cry series.

Just finished Higurashi again and started on Umineko. So of course I think of how thins could be applied to STAR Trek (If you want to see another of my Anime premise applied to Trek see Death Trek (Death Note/Star Trek ft. Hikaru Yagami, Spock the greatest detective in the World, Chekov, the cutest, batshittest, stalker there is and Jim and Bones the Gods of Death).

Here is the premise of When the Vulcans Cry

Spoiler Lite Premise of HIgurashi )

I really, really want a Trek ~Parody~ of this. See below for a spoilery discussion of how it would work.

So if you know of, or plan to write, something where there are many angsty battle royales after which the cycle is broken by the POWAH OF LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP, remember to send it my way.

Fanworksathon Fic: Legacy Code.

  • Mar. 3rd, 2011 at 2:00 AM
Chekov hearts Sulu
Title: Legacy Code
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Chekov/Sulu.

Summary: Chekov has to work on some very old, badly written code. He's a little indiscrete in the comments. Featuring dorky developers.

Written for the Chekov-Sulu Fanworksathon, prompt was:
Occasionally, Chekov helps with some on-the-spot coding for programs on the ship. He starts using Hikaru's name as a place holder for certain lines of meaningless code, maybe typing out full sentences like "I adore hikaru" or something. Does Hikaru see it? Does it have bigger ramifications than Chekov was intending, the code lasting hundreds of years??

I hope the prompter likes it. Special thanks to [info]katmarajade who pointed this prompt and the fanworksathon out to me way back last year.

(Very mild spoilers for Neon Genesis Evangelion)

Lelouch Lamperouge, you are no longer my anime teenage bishonen boyfriend. I'm dumping you for Suzaku Kururugi. He is a much better person than you; you are just an ass. Also he looks like this:

Remind you of anyone? Hint - He's only seventeen ... (as is most of the cast but shush, you.)

Spoilery Discussion:
I think, on the whole, I prefer Light. )

Glee was a bit better this episode.

Spoilers for all of Glee under the cut; also, I say "Ass" about fifty times. Seriously - you could make a drinking game out of it and be tanked by the end of this entry.

Comrade Chekov Shot in the kneecap
Series: Abysmal Bodies
Title: Shades (1/3)
Chapter: Part I - Sepia
Fandom: Star Trek XI
Rating: PG-13
Pairings/Characters: Gen. Pavel Chekov, various OCs.
Words: ~2800

Summary: The yellow days are the worst of all because because they are so few and far between. It is on these days that he starts to understand why the others hurt so and why they feel so betrayed. They are the worst because they remind them of what has been and what could be.

Notes: Special thanks to [info]jessofthebugs for going over this for me and for being generally awesome. I wrote this about a month ago. Chronologically, this will be the first "Abysmal Bodies" story, so it shouldn't matter if you haven't read the other bits and pieces from this series. Warnings for mentions of an unspecifed mental illness.
